Costa Mesa Teen Mental Health Treatment

California ranked 20th for youth mental health in 2024. That’s an improvement from 28th, like we were in 2023 – but we know we can do better.

That’s our mission at SoCal Youth Center: provide mental health care to kids in Costa Mesa so they can live happier, healthier lives. We meet teens and children wherever they are, and welcome them warmly. We communicate with them in the ways that work for them – not just in ways adults think should work. Every kid is unique, complex, and precious, and that’s exactly how we treat them here.

Our Costa Mesa teen mental health treatment and children’s mental health treatment is engineered to increase self-esteem, build social skills, and celebrate diversity. We know the powerlessness that comes with your child having a mental health condition, but their future is still so bright. There is so much hope in healing, and SoCal Youth Center can help your family find it.

What We Treat at SoCal Youth Center in Costa Mesa

SoCal Youth Center is owned by a highly-trained psychiatrist. Her expertise, combined with the skills of the rest of our team of professionals, enables us to diagnose and treat a variety of conditions. Some of these include:

  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Bipolar disorder
  • ADHD
  • OCD
  • PTSD
  • Trauma
  • Panic disorder
  • Antisocial personality symptoms
  • Borderline personality symptoms
  • Dependent personality symptoms
  • Narcissistic personality symptoms

SoCal Youth Center also works closely with young people with high-functioning autism. We have extensive experience finding ways to connect with them despite their differences. While autism isn’t something to “cure,” there are definitely ways to help kids better manage this condition and function happily in day-to-day life. We love teaching them the skills they need to more comfortably interact with neurotypical people without the exhaustion that comes with masking.

At SoCal Youth Center, everyone’s identity is respected, including members of the LGBTQIA+ community. We help young people work through adversities related to gender and sexuality.

If your child has recently experienced a mental health crisis or been hospitalized, they’re welcome at SoCal Youth Center, too. We don’t shy away from severe cases and want your child to heal without you having to send them away. We can help them recover and find stability again.

Why Choose Our Teen and Children’s Mental Health Treatment in Costa Mesa?

SoCal Youth Center is owned by a psychiatrist, but she’s more than just someone who owns a facility – she works directly with kids and their families and gets to know them personally. This allows us to craft individualized treatment plans for every child based on their unique circumstances, concerns, and personality. It also helps us keep you involved every step of the way.

Our expertise and familiarity with our clients also enables us to diagnose mental health conditions, and prescribe medication where appropriate. No matter which of our programs you choose, your child will receive a weekly individual therapy session and family therapy session as part of their treatment plan.

They’ll also frequently take part in group therapy. Our therapy groups are small. This helps us get to know kids even more, and makes talking feel less intimidating than it would in a big group. It’s easier for young people to get to know each other and make friends this way, too, and that’s a huge goal of ours. We want the children we work with to learn important skills and heal, but also have fun and build bonds with other kids their age.

We do this with therapy groups based around identity, communication, self-esteem, and a fan favorite: Dungeons and Dragons. Kids at SoCal Youth Center will get to know our team and each other in ways that make sense to them – not a rigid, one-size-fits-all approach that many young people can’t relate to or connect with.

Our team of experts also works together closely to make sure your child receives the best quality care possible. We frequently meet together and collaborate on how to best serve our clients. We’re constantly learning from each other, and from the kids we get to know, too. Everyone can get better, and we apply that belief to ourselves and our work, too.

Explore Your Options: Our Treatment Programs

If you’re considering trusting us with your child’s mental health, that’s great! We have a few different options for you to choose from: our day program, after-school program, and telehealth services.

Each one comes with different benefits, and the length of each program will depend entirely on what your child needs. They’re welcome (and encouraged!) to stay at SoCal Youth Center until they’re ready and prepared to take on the world, and they’re always welcome back if they need more support.

Our Day Program Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP)  – Our Highest Level of Care

Kids in our PHP will spend multiple hours at our facility. They’ll participate in different types of therapy and enjoy all the fun things SoCal Youth Center has to offer in between sessions – including snacks, games, foosball, and lots of comfy places to hang out.

Having fun is important, but we also keep young people in our PHP on track with their education. We have a team of fully licensed teachers and ample time for schoolwork every day. We also stay in touch with your child’s school, including their teachers and counselors, to make sure they have the easiest transition back into traditional schooling as possible.

Our After-School Program – Support While Staying in School

Our after-school program is a great choice if your child needs mental health care, but you’d like them to remain in their usual school setting. This program runs from 3:30 pm to 6:30 pm Monday through Friday. Anyone in the after-school program still gets to fully enjoy our facility and comprehensive care, but they spend less time with us than in our PHP. We also recommend our after-school program to kids who are transitioning to regular life after attending our PHP.

Our Telehealth Programming – Making Mental Health Treatment More Accessible

A lot of things can get in the way of receiving treatment. Sometimes, you have to work late and can’t get your child to our facility in time. Maybe our Costa Mesa location isn’t convenient for you, and it’s not feasible for you to attend. Your child might be managing anxiety that makes it hard for them to make it to treatment every day.

No matter the reason, we offer telehealth to eliminate barriers to care and get more kids the help they need. They’ll still be able to attend group therapy virtually and interact with others their age, too! They’ll just participate via our tablet. We’ll make sure they’re included. This is a great option for kids who have trouble with in-person interaction and allows them to make friends and grow socially.

That’s what we’re all about at SoCal Youth Center. We love walking alongside young people and empowering them to leap over hurdles and avoid pitfalls. We’ll make sure your child’s path leads them to a better, healthier life, and that they’ll never walk it alone.
